Why
does someone take drugs in the first place?
When a person decides
to get off drugs they need help and understanding from their friends and family.
The right support can make all the difference. No one wants to be a drug addict
or alcoholic, but this doesn’t stop people from getting addicted. So before you
judge, read on and call us at our Drug and Alcohol Treatment
Center in Florida.

The
most commonly asked question is simply... why? Why my son, daughter, father, sister
or brother become a liar, a thief, someone who cannot be trusted. How could this
happen? And why won’t they stop?
The first thing you must understand is
that alcohol and addictive drugs are all painkillers. They chemically kill physical
or emotional pain and alter the mind’s perception of reality. They make your loved
one numb.
Drug addiction always begins
with a problem, a discomfort or some form of emotional or physical pain. For whatever
reasons, the person does not have the ability or tools to resolve these problems.
They can’t see any relief or resolution. As a family member or a friend you need
to understand that.
The person tries drugs or alcohol, sometimes both,
and that appear to solve the problem. For a while they can hide their pain, unhappiness
or discomfort. Soon the person needs more and more to get the comfort from threir
drug of use or alcohol. Excessive and or continued use of drugs and alcohol lead
to addiction where the person loses the ability to control their drug usage and
or alcohol intake and they ignore the consequences of their actions.
Addicts
will sacifice their personal integrity, their relationships with friends and family,
their job, their home, their savings and anything else they may have in a desperate
attempt to get more drugs. The addict is now stuck in a vicious descending spiral;
a life of dishonesty, and all too often, crime.
